Sammy Hagar and The Circle - At Your Service (2015)

At Your Service (Live) is a live album by American hard rock band Sammy Hagar & The Circle, released on May 19, 2015. It is their first live album, and first album overall. It includes music originally recorded by legendary acts Montrose, Van Halen, Sammy Hagar and The Waboritas, and Led Zeppelin.

The Circle is a live touring band formed by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Sammy Hagar in 2014. The band performed a little more than a dozen shows in the Summer of 2014, and this recording is a compilation of those shows. Review by Wikipedia

Hagar put together the Circle last year with two people he’s worked with regularly — former Van Halen and Chickenfoot bassist Michael Anthony and Waboritas guitarist Vic Johnson — plus drummer Jason Bonham. Their Journey Through the History of Rock tour last year was comprised of songs from throughout Hagar’s entire history: Montrose, Van Halen, Chickenfoot and his solo career.
At Your Service contains 19 tracks, including instrumental solos from Anthony, Bonham and Johnson. Speaking to Ultimate Classic Rock, Hagar stated about THE CIRCLE: "I think THE CIRCLE is the band that I want to play with right now. It's the band that I choose to play with over any band. Even CHICKENFOOT is hard, because we only play CHICKENFOOT. So I miss playing 'When It's Love' and 'Right Now' and 'I Can't Drive 55' and 'One Way To Rock' and 'Heavy Metal' and 'Rock Candy'. I miss doing that, as much as I love CHICKENFOOT."

He continued: "THE CIRCLE is so satisfying that I don't even see a reason to make a record. We have so many great hits that we can choose from our catalog, all of those VAN HALEN hits, all of the Sammy solo, all of those MONTROSE hits, CHICKENFOOT hits, LED ZEPPELIN songs — we have that catalog to choose from for our shows, so to make a record would just be kind of a waste of time. I wouldn't say never, but first I'd like to put together the greatest set list that ever existed in rock 'n' roll, and I think we're pretty close to it right now with the one that we have, but it can even get better. There's a frikkin' goldmine to choose from of songs that I've written and sang in my life."

Ten Years After - Ssssh. (1969)

Ten Years After is not a very well known band, and a lot of people have never even heard of them. They were part of the second British Blues invasion between 1966-1975. They had a very underrated front man, Alvin Lee, who is a very good guitarist. They did play Woodstock, and are in the movie playing their jam of I'm Coming Home, that's very good. These guys are a very good live band, and they're probably at their bast when they're on stage performing. This is a very talented, and very underrated band, so I hope you give them a listen, and I hope you like what you hear.

Overall this record is superb, and is a must have. I think it' probably TYA's best. Their other really good album is their s/t, which I'll probably review it pretty soon. If you like bluesy rock, and like a whole lotta guitar then this is the album for you. These guys are probably one of the most underrated bands, so if you ever want to start listening to a new band then try these guys out, chances are you'll love it.

And at last, this time around there was no doubt these guys were gonna be a major act. Good lads, they seem to have realized all of the mistakes they made on Stonedhenge, and this time you're in for a listen of your lifetime! No more stupid grooves or Leo Lyons solo spots. No more trippy quiet guitar sounds and no more muddy, ear-destructive production. What you are presented with is a gruff, rip-roaring, tearing-at-the-walls progressive blues album which boasts brilliant production - AT LAST!

I may be a little biased towards this album, but really, you must realise it was a grandiose effort for the boys. Ten Years After was a homemade album of four guys getting together to play a couple of covers; Undead was a live album made by the same boys; Stonedhenge was a first try, but a failure; and this, this is absolutely fantastic. Well, not absolutely. Ten Years After never made an album that was 'absolutely' fantastic. Forget about 'absolutely'. But this is definitely fantastic in the fantastic Ten Years After way.

Where was I? Ah yes, Ssssh. The only real trouble with that album is an ungly cover and the fact that you never can remember how many 's' you have to write between the capital one and the 'h'.

Apart from that, there are some great blues numbers, some great ballads and some great heavy rockers the likes of which were not to be found previously. The very album opener ('Bad Scene') is not just heavy - it's practically hardcore punk: a breathtaking speed and a gruff guitar tone that predicts the Ramones but also kinda outdates them. But there are also tricky changes in signature, a special jazzy middle-eight, Alvin's trademark solos, strange electronically encoded vocals and... well, you get my drift. There's everything that Stonedhenge sorely lacked.

Rainbow - Finyl Vinyl (1986)

Lanzado 2 años después de la ruptura de la banda en 1984, Finyl Vinyl sería supuestamente la grabación de despedida de Rainbow. Esta es básicamente una recopilación de pistas en vivo en su mayoría con algunas "nuevas" pistas de estudio lanzadas. (En realidad, dos de las pistas de estudio son de el raro extended play "Jealous Lover" siendo sólo "Bad Girl" una pista exclusiva).
Las canciones que aparecen son de las diferentes alineaciones de Rainbow,de la época del vocalista original Ronnie James Dio. Graham Bonnet y Joe Lynn Turner están representados aquí también.
El album de 2 LPs está fuertemente orientado a la última encarnación de la banda (siendo Joe Lynn Turner el vocalista), con sólo 2 canciones de la era Dio y 3 de la alineación Bonnet (aunque una de es estas es la instrumental 'Weiss Heim'). Quizás los recopiladores sintieron que la alineación de Dio había sido suficientemente cubierta con 'Rainbow On Stage' unos 9 años antes?

La producción fue dirigida por Roger Glover y como productor ejecutivo Ritchie Blackmore.

Blackmore decidió que un par de los solos de la guitarra no serían tan fuertes como a él le gustaría, así que grabó algunos overdubs en un par de canciones; vea las notas abajo para saber cuáles fueron y saber también otros interesantes puntos sobre el album.

> La instrumental "Difficult to Cure" es tomada de la fecha final de presentación de Rainbow en Japón en 1984 (Nippon Budokan Tokyo - Mar 14, 1984) y cuenta con un acompañamiento orquestal completo. El solo de guitarra fué re-grabado y difiere del realiza- do en el video.

>En las notas del LP se acredita erróneamente en la canción "Weiss Heim" a Bobby Rondinelli en los tambores, cuando en realidad fueron interpretados por Cozy Powell.

>La fotografía de Ritchie Blackmore en la cubierta del LP fué tomada por Ross Halfin después de un concierto en el Deutschlandhalle en Berlin en Noviembre de 1982.

>La impresión original del LP tenía una funda desplegable con toneladas de fotos de las varias alineaciones de Rainbow.

>La impresión original del CD de Finyl Vinyl tenía solo un disco y omitía dos canciones en vivo "Street Of Dreams" y "Tearin´Out My Heart". Hay ahora una reedición remasterizada de 2 CDs con todas las canciones.

Steve Vai - Stillness in Motion_Vai Live in L.A. (2015)

El primer álbum de Steve Vai para Sony / Legacy es Stillness in Motion, un album doble en vivo está disponible como un paquete de dos CD / dos DVD - que captura el concierto del guitarrista en el Club Nokia de Los Ángeles el 12 de octubre del 2012. Esto es, a falta de una palabra mejor, algo de una extravagancia: 22 pistas en el transcurso de 130 minutos, Vai sumergiéndose en casi todas las fases de su carrera. El es tan preciso en escena como lo es en el estudio, lo que quizás signifique que Stillness in Motion carece de la energía cinética que es el sello distintivo de tantos grandes álbumes en vivo. Lo que tiene en cambio es la fluidez: Vai y su banda de respaldo quizás se especializen en pirotecnia, pero hay una gracia para jugar aún con los números frenéticos, y ese lirismo puede abrir los ojos a los escépticos. Para los convertidos, es sin duda una buena razón para sumergirse en este generoso conjunto en vivo.

Fuck Yer Ya-Ya's Out! es un bootleg CD de 1997 de The Rolling Stones. El album es una transferencia de el Acetato de la Apple Records "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!" el cuál presenta diferencias respecto a la versión final, incluyendo un número de detalles extras que fueron editadas ó removidas. Este fué realizado por A Vinyl Gang Product.

Get Yer Ya-Ya´s Out! es el único album de the RSque fué cortado en Apple acetates. Aparentemente, los estudios Apple ofrecían un servicio de corte de acetatos el cuál fué usado por otros marcas grabadoras. Hay otros ejemplos de acetatos Apple de bandas que no realizaron nada en Apple Records tales como Slade, The Zombies, The Who, Rolling Stones, Fairport Convention,...

APPLE solo imprimió estos acetatos por corta tiempo entre 1968-1970 – el mostrado al lado fué impreso en November de 1969 y no fué emitido con funda de album. Estos acetatos fueron distribuidos en fundas de papel normal.

Este vinyl es tan raro, que fué difícil encontrar mucha información sobre el, lo que si es sabido es que este es una impresión de prueba de la primera mezcla de lo que luego llegaría a ser el "Get Your Ya-Yah's Out" album. Hay muchas diferencias entre esta mezcla y la que terminaría siendo realizada.

Vaughan Brothers - Family Style (1990)

Family Style is a blues-rock album by the Vaughan Brothers, released on September 25, 1990. The album features the brethren guitarists and vocalists, Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan, in their only studio collaboration. In his early years, Stevie Ray Vaughan often remarked that he would like to do an album with his brother. He fulfilled that wish in his very last studio performance, which was released nearly a month after his death. The liner notes end with "Thanks Mama V. for letting us play." Review by Wikipedia

Este disco reúne por primer vez –en carácter igualitario- a los hermanos Vaughan: Jimmie y el gran Stevie Ray. A la postre, casi se constituiría en el testamento musical de Stevie Ray porque fue lanzado muy poco tiempo después de su trágica muerte en el accidente aéreo del 27 de Agosto de 1990. Compuesto de 10 canciones, si bien el estilo predominante es, cómo no, el blues y el rock’n’roll, podemos encontrar una variedad de estilos que van desde el rockabilly hasta el funk –como en el tema Baboom/Mama Said- donde se nota claramente la influencia del productor ex Chic Nile Rodgers, co-autor también de un par de temas.

No es el típico disco a los que nos tenía acostumbrado Stevie Ray, pletórico de guitarras y solos flamígeros –aunque los hay, claro-; toma un par de escuchadas acostumbrarse, pero es una excelente pieza de música para no dejar de mover la patita. Review by El Gramófono
